Camp Counselor – Summer 2026
Westwood Recreation Department
Applications are being accepted for the seasonal, non-benefit position of Camp Counselor in the areas of Camp, Sports, Preschool and Theater. Counselors lead camp participants in activities and are responsible for the general safety and skill development of the campers. Work is performed under the direction of the Program Managers and Camp Supervisors. Counselors provide participants with high quality recreational experiences that focus on the Westwood Recreation Department’s core values of safety, fun, responsibility and respect.
Dedicated counselors are needed in the following four areas:
Camp: Join us to make this summer special for campers entering Kindergarten–8th grade! Lead them in activities including games, crafts, sports and more.
Sports: Demonstrate your skills and knowledge of a variety of sports. Experience playing and/or coaching a sport is essential.
Preschool: Summer fun with the little ones, ages 3-5. Enrich a child’s day through games, crafts, music and creative play.
Theater: Join our team to lead a cast through the process of putting on a musical production—from audition, to rehearsal, to final performance!
Note: State regulation Licensed Camp 105CMR430 specifies the following minimum age requirements:
Camp Counselor – 16 years+
Sports Counselor – 15 years+ (Limited Spots)
Preschool Counselor – 15 years+ (Limited Spots)
Theater Counselor – 15 years+ (Limited Spots)
Qualifications and Experience:
• Experience working with groups of children
• Attendance at all required staff trainings
• Certification in First Aid, CPR/AED (We offer convenient staff classes for a fee)
• Competence to work with children of varying ages, backgrounds, and abilities
• Excellent communication skills
Summer 2026 Schedule Commitments:
Preseason Staff Trainings: Evenings during the week of June 8th
7-Week Mandatory Commitment: June 29-August 14 (No camp on 7/3)
Additional Camp Weeks (Optional): June 22-26 & August 17-21
Salary and Benefits: This is a seasonal, non-benefit position with a starting hourly rate between $15.00 - $17.00. Counselors are eligible for a $500 perfect attendance bonus!
