Job Description

ELECTRICAL ESTIMATOR

The Electrical Estimator will prepare accurate and competitive estimates for a variety of commercial and industrial projects, with a strong focus on project profitability from the preconstruction phase through project award. This role will support project wins through strategic estimating, sound financial analysis, and effective collaboration with internal teams, clients, and partners.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for commercial electrical construction projects, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs across multiple scopes of work.
  • Review and interpret project drawings, specifications, and bid documentation to fully understand project requirements, identify scope, and ensure comprehensive and precise quantity takeoffs.
  • Utilize estimating software such as AccuBid and Bluebeam to perform thorough material and labor takeoffs, ensuring consistency, efficiency, and accuracy in estimate development.
  • Solicit, review, and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotations to ensure competitive pricing and alignment with project scope and specifications.
  • Support alignment of estimates with company margin and profitability targets.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, project walkthroughs, and site assessments to gather critical information, assess site conditions, and identify potential challenges impacting cost and schedule.
  • Develop clear, professional, and competitive bid proposals, and assist in presenting estimates and project approaches to clients, general contractors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, designers, and other team members throughout the preconstruction phase to ensure alignment, accuracy, and a seamless transition into project execution.
  • Maintain and update historical cost data, unit pricing, and estimating databases, while contributing to continuous improvement of estimating processes and best practices.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Strong understanding of commercial/industrial electrical systems, NEC, and construction methodologies
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications and technical documents
  • Demonstrated understanding of project delivery methods, cost drivers, and factors impacting profitability
  • Proficiency with basic computer applications; experience with estimating software is a plus.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills across internal teams and external partners
  • Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while contributing to project strategy and client relationships
  • Regular and reliable attendance and flexibility to work outside of regular business hours as needed.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in electrical construction, estimating or related field
  • Associates degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or Journey Worker License preferred; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Primarily office-based with occasional site visits (PPE Required)
  • Ability to sit, stand, and work at a computer for extended periods
  • Must be able to physically navigate job sites
  • May occasionally lift up to 25 lbs., and perform bending, stooping, or kneeling
