Job Description:

SUNY Poly invites applications for a Research Assistant position in Utica, NY. This is a Temporary- Part Time position that will last 3-4 months . Remote Capable

The Temporary Research Assistant will support sponsored research activities focused on the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Civil Engineering. The position involves assisting in the development, deployment, and evaluation of AI-based models and tools for engineering applications. At the end of the project, whole work repository needs to be uploaded in GitHub.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the development and implementation of AI agents and machine learning models for civil engineering applications
  • Develop, test, and optimize models using Python-based environments (e.g., Jupyter Notebook, Google Colab)
  • Conduct validation and performance evaluation of developed models
  • Conduct literature reviews and benchmarking of existing AI approaches
  • Participate in regular project meetings and collaborate with faculty and research team members
  • Perform other research-related duties as assigned
20 hours per week

Pay Rate: $25/hour

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, or a closely related field
  • Proficiency in Python programming
  • Experience with Jupyter Notebook and/or Google Colab
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience applying AI/ML techniques to engineering problems
  • Familiarity with machine learning libraries (e.g., scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch)
  • Experience with model validation, deployment, or AI workflow development
